Year 6 enjoyed a trip out to the Newcastle Quayside and Victoria Tunnel.

First, they took part in a classroom lesson where they examined artefacts from World War Two. They were greeted by an Air Raid Warden in full uniform and even tried on a real tin helmet!

Next, they retreated underground to Victoria Tunnel – they had torches, a tour guide and an air raid warden to accompany them.

After lunch, we walked along the quayside and up to the viewing platform at The Baltic. From here, we compared photographs of Newastle Quayside from the 1930s, 1940s and now to see why it was a target for the Luftwaffe during World War Two blitz attacks.

Year 6 impressed the tour guides and adults from school with their knowledge and questions. Their behaviour was impeccable – we are so proud!
