We began Y6 science this year by finishing off our Y5 topic on flowering plants. Once the bees have carried pollen to other flowers and the pollen’s fertilised the seeds, what happens next?

The seeds have to be dispersed far away from the parent plant, that’s what.

How does this happen? Once way is that plants use wind to disperse their seeds (think dandelions and sycamores, for example.)

Y6 scientists investigated how a range of different seeds have evolved to catch even the slightest breeze to transport them away from the parent plant.
