Y6 students – in the guise of Spanish conquistadores – continued their exploration of the Mayan Empire by sampling some of the exotic foods of the New World.  New and exciting things to eat and drink were discovered by Europeans in the 16th Century including tomatoes, tortillas, avocados and – best of all – chocolate.  We combined these foods with ingredients which were already familiar to the Spanish (onions, honey, chillies) to make scrumptious salsa, gorgeous guacamole and terrific tortillas.  We also followed an ancient Mayan recipe to brew some hot chocolate, which came as rather a surprise to our 21st Century palettes…
