The week after SATs is traditionally a time to balance up the curriculum by doing certain activities and subjects which have been forced to take something of a lower profile in recent weeks. Accordingly, we began our Creative Curriculum topic on the Ancient Mayans. We made a Mayan feast (food technology) using items first tasted by Europeans when they visited the so-called New World: tomatoes, avocados, tortillas and – best of all – chocolate. We created scale models of Mayan temples (maths, DT) and made Mayan masks (art).
