WW1 in Newcastle

WW1 in Newcastle

The children have been thoroughly engaged this term whilst learning about how WW1 affected Newcastle. We have also learnt about the life of a local soldier from Wallsend named Sergeant Andrew Neil. Many of the children were so absorbed they took it upon themselves to independently research Sergeant Andrew Neil and his family.

When finding out about air raids in Newcastle, we couldn’t believe it when we learnt that an L9 zeppelin had dropped a bomb just metres from our school on Station Road!

As an end to this fantastic topic, the children weighed out their own rations to make baked jam rolls from scratch (including pastry!). Minimal adult help was provided but this resulted in maximum cleaning of the carpets which I fear will never look the same again!

Well done to all of the children for their enthusiastic and thoughtful learning throughout this topic.
