Today Year 5 and 6 visited St. Aidan’s Primary School to hear a very special talk from an inspirational man called Richard Moore.
Richard was born in Derry, Northern Ireland. He was shot and blinded by a rubber bullet fired by a British Soldier in May 1972 on his way home from school. Since then, Richard has gone on to lead a full and wonderful life playing the guitar, spending time with his wife and their children and running his own business. Richard talked about the sadnesses and trials of being blind, but also the contentment and happiness he felt.
Richard was an inspiration to us all when he described the day that he met and befriended the man who shot him in 2006. Richard shared his feelings of peace and forgiveness that he had on that day and thereafter.
Richard is a humble and gentle man and has gone on to do amazing works for the charity ‘Children in Crossfire’. If you would like to learn more about him, please visit his website at: www.richardmoore.ie
We have all brought back to school valuable messages about the importance of forgiveness, peace and support that we can share with our families and friends.
Thank you to Richard for his inspirational messages and to St. Aidan’s for hosting a wonderful morning.
