Welcome to St. Columba’s RC Primary School. We are delighted that you and your child will be joining us in September.
Under normal circumstances, we would be writing to invite you to a number of events and meetings across the summer term. However, due to the current guidelines, this is not possible at this present time.
We find ourselves in an unprecedented situation and empathise with the anxieties you may feel as a family in regards to your child’s transition into Nursery or Reception. We would like to reassure you that an induction process will take place, even if it is a little later and occurs a little differently to our usual way of doing things here at St. Columba’s.
Schools are working within a constantly changing environment, with different versions of guidance and new updates coming from the Government and Department for Education on a daily basis. We therefore ask for your patience and understanding whilst we put together plans which are realistic, practical, flexible and, above-all, beneficial in supporting the best possible start to your child’s school life at St. Columba’s.
We have decided to begin by sending transition packs to all new starters. The packs include key information about Nursery or Reception and a social story for you to read with your child so they can become familiar with the staff and their classroom environment. We have also included an ‘All About Me’ information sheet which can be completed and returned to school on the first day back in September.
We hope that many of your questions will be answered by reading the enclosed information and visiting our school website. Your child’s class teachers will also be phoning each of you individually over the next few weeks to introduce themselves and answer any questions you may have. As soon as we are able to share further information about start dates and times for September, we will be in touch.
If you have any urgent questions, please do not hesitate to email or phone our school office (the details are included on the letter head above) and we will respond as soon as we can.
Please feel reassured that your child will be at the centre of every decision we make and they will have the best transition to our school as possible, as our new starters always do.
On behalf of the Governors, Staff, Parish and wider community, we look forward to welcoming you and your child into school as soon as we are able.
