Initial Teacher Training

At St. Columba’s initial teacher training is an important part of our partnership links with our wider community.

Alongside our partners, we have a strong commitment to supporting and delivering high quality teacher training.

The trainee teachers that we mentor and tutor are an integral part of our school community.

We have very successful links with the following teacher training institutes in the North East. Currently students from these providers are on placements at St. Columba’s. Miss Metcalfe is our SCITT mentor and liaison teacher. Mr Keilty, Mrs McGrady and Mrs Iliadou all deliver key professional development and training in the following areas: maths, science, phonics, reading, SEND and PE.

Gateshead Teaching School Alliance is a partnership of schools and institutions across Gateshead and Northumberland across the primary sector from inner city locations to rural contexts, that have come togethe to share our skills, experience, talent and capacity to help improve the learning and achievement of young people across the region.

Gateshead Teaching School Alliance members have a shared moral purpose to work together to improve the learning and achievement for all young people and their schools and to support other schools in the region to do the same. This will be achieved by pursuing excellence in teaching and learning in schools by offering training, support and research and development that is ‘by schools for schools’. We firmly believe that we are ‘stronger together’ and that partnership and collaboration between practicing teachers in different schools is the only way to continually develop and improve teaching and learning for the benefit of students, parents and the communities in which we work.
