On Friday 6th October, our Mini Police representatives attended a very important event at the Metro Centre. We were invited to support the annual cybercrime prevention awareness stalls organised by Northumbria Police – #CyberSquad. The event helps to raise awareness to shoppers about the very important issues of online and cyber safety. The Digital Policing Team were present to show members of the public how easy it can be to become a target online if you don’t follow basic safety advice.
That’s where the Mini Police came into their own! Following a morning session from the Police Cadets, the Mini Police representatives came up with a set of 10 rules for ‘Staying Safe Online’. Here is the winning design! This will now be made into posters which can be displayed around schools and public places in the North East!
The Mini Police from St. Columba’s were presented with certificates from Northumbria Police and Get Safe Online in recognition of their hard work and commitment to helping keep others safe online.
Following the presentations, the Mini Police had time to peruse the information stalls and have a little bit of fun sampling some of the technology on offer!
We are incredibly proud of our fabulous Mini Police! We had a brilliant morning and a lot of fun was had by all! Please see Northumbria Police’s Facebook page for live footage and interviews from the event @northumbriapolice
Remember to read our rules and stay safe online everyone!
