Year 1 The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch

Year 1 The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch

As part of our ‘At the Seaside’ theme, we have been reading the story The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. We have really enjoyed the story and completed lots of work around it.

In the story, Mrs Grinling is having trouble with some seagulls who are eating Mr Grinling’s lunch. She makes mustard sandwiches to baffle the seagulls. To help her out we wrote recipes for our own disgusting sandwiches, and they were disgusting! They included toe nails and slime in the ingredients list!

Some of the children couldn’t understand why the seagulls did not like the mustard sandwiches. So we tried mustard…..

Then we understood! Although some of us liked it!

Then we decided to make the iced biscuits Mrs Grinling makes for Mr Grinling. We enjoyed these much more! We were also able to use the measuring skills, which we had been learning in Maths, as we followed the recipe.

They were scrumptious!

Next we are going to look at the speech bubbles in the story and try writing sentences with inverted commas!

The project ran…Continue Reading

Girls’ football

The North Tyneside Girls’ Summer League culminated on a pleasant June afternoon at Norham High School. The team had managed to win all their…Continue Reading
