Year 4 – Islam and the Qur’an

Year 4 – Islam and the Qur’an

As part of our R.E. curriculum, we learn about other world faiths, with the focus this term being on Islam, and in particular the Qur’an. To begin with, the children learned about the history and traditions of Islam, looking at Allah, the Angel Gabriel and Muhammad, and their involvement in the creation of the Qur’an. The children learned how the Qur’an is the direct word of Allah which Muslims use to lead their lives in the correct manner. Year 4  answered questions about the Qur’an whilst watching Muslims using their holy book and praying in the mosque.

The class then looked in depth at quotes from the Qur’an, discussing what the words mean and how Muslims use them to lead their lives.

As as well as watching footage, the children were given the opportunity to handle a prayer mat, and learn how Muslims always pray towards Mecca, before designing their own prayer mats.

After a hard day of work, the children sampled a traditional taste of South East Asian cuisine by cooking pakoras. They were absolutely delicious!
